Excerpt from the book:
Robin was a strong and handsome youth, skilful with his bow and quick with his fists. He lived happily in his father's house, merry and glad the whole year round. His two great friends were Will, his cousin, and Maid Marian, and very happy were they when they played together in the Greenwood they all loved.
Then one day, enemies came to attack Robin's father. In vain did his men, led by Robin, try to repulse the foe. The old man was killed, and his house was set on fire. All his men were slain, and none escaped save only Robin. He vowed his life to his trusty bow, for so well did he shoot that the enermy did not dare to come near him.
Robin watched his home flaming to the sky, and then, full of grief for his father, he ran weeping to Sherwood Forest, carrying only his bow and arrows with him. He rushed through the trees, deeper and deeper into the wood. Then at last, tited out, he flung himself down and thought bitterly of all that had happened that day.
