This is the remarkable story of a woman who, having lost the most precious thing in life - her children - dived headlong into a furiously whirling maelstrom of war. Running from a broken life in the serene highlands of Scotland, to be made whole in the much abused mountains of Afghanistan, seems to be an extraordinary thing to do. But Banafsha-Khomar Zahrah Nasir is an unusual woman.

Zahrah Nasir's book should be essential reading for folks, especially Karachi folks, who wish to understand the human cost of the wars in Afghanistan, and the ensuing (and continuing) refugee crises. It is also a lesson in how to report on war with humaneness and empathy. And throughout all of this, we get glimpses of beautifully-worded insights into one part of an incredible woman's personal journey of survival, rebirth, growth, and the pursuit of joy and harmony. Really, everyone neeeeeds to read this book asap!
