Dastan-e Amir Hamza is one of the seminal classics of Urdu literature which exists in a number of renderings by Urdu prose writers. Some of them chose to call their texts translations from old texts to give their versions an ancient pedigree. Ghalib Lakhnavi who published his version in Urdu in 1855 also called it a translation into Urdu but the source text from which this translation was made was never identified. This version of Dastan. According to the most current research, was never reprinted again in Urdu. It became one of the more important source texts that was later used in 1871 by Abdullah Bilgrami, working for the Naval Kishore Press, to create another important version of the legend of Amir Hamza. This is its first reprint in 155 years.
