Very good and detailed book. It is about mysterious creatures named hobbits (at least that'swhat they call themselves), but are called Halflings by others. This particular book is aboit a particular Hobbiy called Bilbo Baggins, a rather lazy, comfortable young hobbit, like most of his kind. He is 'forced' to journey with a large band of dwarves, to steal treasure from a dragon which actually stole the same treasure from them, by a wizard called Gandalf the Gray, who has but a minor part in this affair, but in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, becomes a major character. He encounters trolls, Men, and, in the middle of the book, a strange creature called Gollum, who, living inside of a mountain, has become very VERY hungry, and decides to try hobbit. You can read about their adventures later in the book. Bilbo takes Gollum's 'Precious' a ring with strange magical powers, but how strange, he will never find out in this book. Find out more by reading The Lord of the Rings after you try this book. The only problem with this book is the details, which are rather hard to read, so I recommend this book to ages 13+
