An account of the author's trip to Afghanistan in 1986, during which he travelled extensively with the Mujahideen and monitored their hostilities towards the departing Russians. Sandy Gall is well-known as a newsreader, and received the Lawrence of Arabia Memorial Medal for his work in Afghanistan, a country on which he is considered to be an expert. His journey provided him with an insight into the realities of a situation which is currently the focus of world attention. He also had an opportunity to study the country's geography, flora, fauna and people. Hence this book is more than just a study of the war.
