Written by the then Commander-in-Chief of the Pakistan Army, this is the first authentic account of the 965 war with India. The conflicting and confusing views expressed on the conflict by various writers during the past years prompted General Musa to lift the curtain and reveal the truth, which only he could do being one of the very few members of the high command of that period present today.
Explaining the genesis of the war,the author for the first time, discloses in some detail political activity which preceded and ultimately led to the all-out combat between the two countries. The Army's stand on launching of guerilla operations in Indian occupied Kashmir, its correct assessment of the likely Indian reaction and the steps taken to deal with itare brought out authoritatively by the then Commander-in-Chief. Thereafter, without encumbering the reader with details of battles,he covers their main features and in the process clears the prevalent doubts about the engagements in his direct and straightforward style.
Having no access to official documents,in this book aptly titled 'MY VERSION',General Musa has relied on memory, his private notes and occasional assistance from his war time colleagues when in doubt. For the interest of the reader he has also freely quoted from foreign correspondents' despatches based on their personal observations of the battles. These not only testify to the veracity of the narrative, their oblique and dirsct hits at Indian propaganda during the war add another pleasing dimension to the book.
In conclusion, the author devoutly acknowledges that the real activating force for the superb performance of Pakistan's Armed Forces during the war was mainlythe spirit of Jehad and the concept of Ghazi or Shaheed which arouse the instincts of courage and defiance in the believer to such a pitch that makes him invicible.
